Title

Advanced Computational Methods for Strongly Correlated Quantum Systems

Revised Project List

(Please give your input here, and add a 2 or 3 line description of the content of each project)

  1. Cluster methods for spin systems (TP, AH, SW)
    Additionally interested: AL
    2 PhD (Gö) = 1.5
Outline: Step 1: Set up a cluster dynamical mean-field framework for (frustrated) spin systems. Step 2: Test solution with an ED impurity solver (frustrated systems are expected to yield a sign problem). Step 3: Work on QMC impurity solver(s). Go back to step 1 whenever necessary.
    Additional aspects:
    • QMC solver for frustrated spin systems
  2. Quantum clusters with bosonic & fermionic baths (FA,PW(?),TP)
    Additionally interested: MT, PW (?)
    External collaborator(s): Holger Fehske
    2 PhD (Wü & Gö & Zü) = 1.5 or 1 PD (Wü - M. Hohenadler?)
    Outline.
    • Further development of continuous time QMC for clusters with bosonic and fermionic baths.
    • Problem: very long autocorrelation times calls for better updating schemes.
    • Applications. Electron-phonon and electron-electron correlations. eg: TTF-TCNQ. 2D CDW.
    • EDMFT.
    • Philipp, Matthias and Thomas please let me know if you have further suggestions.
  3. Cluster impurity solvers with DMRG (US,RN,EJ)
    Additionally intested: TP, AH
    2 PhD (Aa + Ma) = 1.5
    Outline:
    • Multiorbital
    • Multichain (e.g., differentiated bath discretization)
    • Clusters for DCA, etc.
    Comments:
    • Old 3. and 4. consolidated into one project (RN)
    • Uli, please add feedback! (RN & EJ)
  4. DMRG for dynamical response (RN & EJ)
    Additionally interested: US, AL
    2 PhD (Ma + Ha) = 1.5
    Outline:
    • Nonlinear reponse
    • Intermarriage of DDMRG and t-DMRG (especially for long-time response or steady state)
    • Low, but finite temperatures
    Comments:
    • formerly 5. DDMRG++ (EJ & RN)
    • Goettingen definitely is interested here, too (not necessarily requesting resources, though)
  5. 2D DMRG (PEPS, etc.) (US,MT)
    Additionally interested: EJ, RN, AL
    2 PhD (Aa, Zü) = 1.5
    • Different methods
    • First step: ladder systems?
    • PetaFLOP computing
  6. QMC methods for real-time dynamics (MT[PW])
Additionally interested: TP, AH, SW, FA
    1 PhD = 0.75
    • Philipp: we need some specifics here!
  7. Dynamics of Exotic Quantum Magnets (SW)
